Fire Safe Sonoma is looking for three individuals to become Wildfire Resiliency Fellows for the 2025-2026 Fellowship Term. As a Wildfire Resiliency Fellow with Fire Safe Sonoma—the countywide Fire Safe Council for Sonoma County—this position plays a vital role in advancing community wildfire preparedness and climate action.
California Climate Action Corps is a statewide service program led by California Volunteers, Office of the Governor. It engages emerging leaders in climate-focused public service by placing Fellows with local governments, nonprofits, and community organizations across the state. Fellows work on projects related to wildfire resiliency, urban greening, organic waste and edible food recovery, and other climate initiatives—building community resilience while gaining hands-on experience in environmental action.
Key focus areas include:
- Supporting wildland fire mitigation projects and fuels reduction efforts
- Assisting with community outreach, public education, and event planning
- Managing social media platforms and developing digital content to engage residents
- Contributing to the implementation of NFPA’s Firewise USA Program
- Tracking and reporting climate action impacts to support data-driven program evaluation
Program Benefits:

Other benefits include:
- Receive up to a $33,600 (pre-tax) stipend spread evenly over 11 months
- Earn up to $10,000 (pre-tax) in education awards upon completion of 1700 hours
- Participate in 170-340 hours of professional development & training
- Minimum essential healthcare coverage
- Forbearance on qualifying student loans and interest payments accrued during the term
- Food assistance and childcare assistance (for those eligible)
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Live in California by August 15, 2025
- Be over the age of 18 by August 15, 2025
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident to participate*
- Commitment to the full term of service (1700+ hours over 11 months)
- Must not have served more than one full AmeriCorps term or over 1,700 hours
- Capable of working an 8-hour workday, 5 days per week
- Must not be enrolled in undergraduate courses between Sep 15, 2025 – Aug 15, 2026
- Must have no criminal history of violent or sexual offenses**
